These health stories — personal recovery from addiction and cancer, public illness and hospitalization, and population-level shifts in tobacco use and sanitation — call the church to both compassion and stewardship. Scripture teaches that our bodies are temples (1 Corinthians 6:19–20) and that caring for the sick, defending the dignity of the marginalized, and supporting paths to restoration and sobriety are tangible expressions of loving our neighbor (Matthew 25:36; Luke 10:27).
