These standards govern sourcing, AI assistance, biblical reflection, review disclosures, impact labels, and corrections.
Reporting and commentary
Sanctuary News links to reporting produced by other publishers. The news summary and source analysis describe that reporting; the biblical reflection and faithful response are commentary. We do not present AI-generated prose as eyewitness reporting.
Sourcing and story clusters
Sources must not be invented. Sanctuary groups reports about the same developing story into one canonical article. A one-source story is labeled provisional; additional independent reporting changes it to corroborated. Every publisher URL remains visible, while duplicate Sanctuary URLs redirect to the canonical story. Claims that cannot be supported are identified as unresolved.
Comparing coverage
Each source receives separate reporting-quality and Christian-virtues-alignment assessments. Reporting quality considers evidence, attribution, specificity, context, and uncertainty. Virtues alignment considers truthfulness, human dignity, compassion, justice, peacemaking, humility, and care for vulnerable people. These are Sanctuary editorial judgments about a particular report—not declarations about a publisher's faith, motives, or politics—and religious language receives no automatic preference.
AI and human review
Generative AI drafts outlooks using structured instructions. A byline or reviewer is shown only when a named person and review date are recorded. Articles below our private automated confidence threshold warn that human review has not been recorded; higher-confidence articles remain clearly labeled as automated assessments. Automation can miss context, reproduce bias, or make errors, so readers should inspect sources and use pastoral judgment.
Biblical reflection
Outlooks should cite passages in context, distinguish text from application, identify interpretive uncertainty, and avoid implying that one prudential policy is the only faithful Christian response.
Public-impact labels
High, Moderate, and Focused labels are a discovery aid based on factors such as breadth of people affected, urgency, duration, civic consequence, and prominence across reporting. They are not a measure of spiritual worth, truth, or how much a Christian should care. We publish qualitative labels rather than a false-precision numeric score.
Corrections
Substantive errors should be corrected transparently. Reports can be submitted through the Corrections page; verified changes should identify what changed and when.
